SIRUA AULO WATER PROJECT: PROJECT OVERVIEW

by Sirua Aulo Water Project

We are in the news:

What is the goal of the Sirua Aulo Water Project?

The goal of the Sirua Aulo Water Project is to provide reliable drinking water to the Massai community residing in the Kapune region in Kenya by installing a water well on the local school's campus.

What is the issue?

Currently, the Massai community in the Kapune region in Kenya rely on the nearest river, the Kapune Stream, for their water. However, this river is located miles from the village and contains toxic pathogens that can lead to fatal illnesses when consumed. The children of the village are the ones burdened with  retrieving the water from the river daily - this takes them away from their education at the academy on a regular basis.

Where do we need to focus?

The Sirua Aulo Academy is a school campus residing in the Kapune region of Kenya. The school was founded in 2008 by a local man, Emmanuel Tasur, to give the children of the region a chance to be educated, empowered, and break the cycle of poverty. By building the well here on this academy's campus, it could provide safe drinking water to the most people, including the students who will be able to focus more on their education because of this.

The Clean Water Project:

The Sirua Aulo Clean Water Project began with the hope that this academy's campus could host the reliable and sustainable water source for the region. It aims to reach the most people and provide relief to the students, staff, and surrounding community of Kapune.

What is the project plan?

A water well will be constructed so that water can be conveyed to a secure storage tank located on the Academy premises to focus this water access to those working or learning in the school. Additionally, a pipeline will be constructed to convey clean water to a taphouse located downhill from the Academy to provide the rest of the local community with access to clean water as well.

Is this project sustainable?

The water will be pumped through a completely autonomous network, powered by an off-grid, sustainable, solar-pump. Community members will pay a small fee to access the taphouse. The funds will be re-invested into the maintenance of the well and pump system. Any excess funds will be used to construct additional wells in the community.

3000 people will gain access to clean drinking water

We can make this hope a reality!
